10–12 hrs of fasting is required. Water is allowed. Morning collection is preferred for accurate sugar and lipid results.

What this test measures

Seventy parameters from a single blood draw and a urine sample, grouped by organ system: a complete blood count (CBC or haemogram), fasting blood sugar (blood glucose) and the lipid profile that reports cholesterol and triglycerides, liver enzymes (SGOT/AST and SGPT/ALT), kidney markers (creatinine, urea, uric acid), thyroid hormones (TSH, T3, T4), iron stores and the vitamins most commonly low in Indian adults — vitamin D and B12.

Why a doctor orders it

It is a screening panel, not a diagnostic one. Almost everything it looks for — early diabetes, a drifting cholesterol, an under-active thyroid, anaemia, the enzyme pattern of fatty liver, vitamin D deficiency — is silent for years. Screening exists because those conditions are far easier to reverse while they are still a number on a report than once they are a symptom in a clinic.

Symptoms that lead to this test

  • Tiredness or low energy that does not improve with rest
  • Unexplained weight gain or weight loss
  • Frequent infections, or cuts that heal slowly
  • A family history of diabetes, thyroid or heart disease
  • No symptoms at all — this is primarily an annual preventive check

Understanding your results

A full-body panel is read as a pattern, not as 70 verdicts. One value sitting just outside the range is common and often means nothing on its own — hydration, a recent meal, a recent infection or an intense workout all move numbers. What a doctor looks for is a cluster (say, a raised fasting sugar alongside high triglycerides and a low HDL), a value far outside the range, or a trend across successive years. That is why every report here is read by a physician before you act on it.

Typical adult reference ranges

Indicative only. Reference ranges vary between laboratories and between testing methods, and shift with age, sex and pregnancy — always read your own result against the range printed on your own report, with the doctor who ordered it.

Why the preparation matters

The 10–12 hour overnight fast is there for two of the 70 parameters. Eating raises blood glucose within minutes, and triglycerides stay elevated for up to eight hours after a fatty meal — a non-fasting sample can make a perfectly normal lipid profile look abnormal and trigger a repeat test. Water is not just allowed, it helps: mild dehydration concentrates the blood and can nudge haemoglobin, creatinine and urea upwards.

Who should consider this test

  • Anyone with a family history of diabetes, hypertension or heart disease
  • Sedentary or desk-bound workers
  • Anyone who has not had blood work done in over a year
  • People starting a new fitness, weight-loss or medication plan
